Description:
The principal duty of the Macon County Register of Deeds is to register (record) deeds and other instruments required by law or allowed to be filed by law. This includes items such as deeds, powers of attorney, mortgages, marriage settlements, plats, leases, wills, military discharges, and bankruptcy petitions. Aso collects taxes on recordings which evidence a debt. This would include mortgages, conditional sales contracts and fixture filings under the Uniform Commercial Code.
