Description:

Provides court appointed special advocates as volunteers who help guide children through the juvenile court system in Memphis and Shelby County once appointed to a child's case by the Juvenile Court judge or referred by the CASA Advocacy Coordinator. A child must be involved in an active court case to receive a CASA advocate. Volunteers act as communication link between the child and juvenile court, with the help of staff who guide them through the child's casework. They may also help to find resources for the child and his/her family. Requires an initial 30 hours of training with an average commitment of 8-14 hours per month from volunteers.
