Description:

Provides legal advice and representation in selected non-criminal matters to elderly and low-income people; legal areas covered include consumer issues (such as consumer contracts and warranties); credit, collections and loan issues (but does NOT help with bankruptcies); legal problems with utilities, public benefits or housing; family law and custody issues; wills and powers of attorney, and neglect, abuse or exploitation of elderly. Also provides community legal education and outreach and help with special education issues. Maintains list of pro bono attorneys. Sponsors a legal clinic the 3rd Saturday of every other month at: First Presbyterian Church, 403 South Main Street, Covington, TN 38019 (see website for schedule).

Mon - Fri 8:30 - 5:00 pm

Tipton County residents call 901-476-1808 for pre-screening. Fayette and Lauderdale County residents call 888-207-6386 for pre-screening.

Program Fees:

No fee for representation, if eligible; clients pay court costs.

Eligibility:

Area residents with household income within published federal guidelines (125% of federal poverty level or less) living in Fayette, Lauderdale, Tipton or Shelby County. Call for further information.
