Common Internet crimes include auction fraud, counterfeit cashier's checks, debt elimination schemes, credit card fraud, bogus business opportunities, third-party escrow services, identity theft, Internet extortion, investment fraud, lottery schemes, advance fee schemes, faked electronic documents, Ponzi or pyramid scams, work-at-home employment offers, third-party receivership of funds, and spam transmitted for the purpose of accessing computers and servers without authorization and transmitting viruses, botnets and ransomware. NOTE: Internet Crime Complaint Center is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National White Collar Crime Center, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
