Description:
Provides individualized rehabilitation teaching programs to assist with adjustment to sight loss which includes instruction in travel, communication, daily living skills, using aids and appliances. Also provides individualized vocational rehabilitation which includes diagnostic medical services, corrective appliances, surgery, employment counseling, guidance, and placement; educational assistance for job skills training; counseling and personal adjustment training; training in use of appliances and aids and reader service. Provides information/referral service; in-service training to agencies; speakers to groups; makes referrals to TN Library for the Blind (Talking Books); dispenses white canes and signature guides; offers specialized services for dual sensory impairments (deaf-blind); sponsors Tennessee Business Enterprise, which provides jobs managing vending concession stands. This includes training and placement, location and development of sites, ongoing supervision.

Eligibility:
Anyone with visual disability or progressive visual condition causing substantial visual impairment. For ages 16 and over, vocational services only. Applications taken in person. Medical reports requested to verify eligibility. Other evaluation reports may be required. Call for details.
