Description:

Provides nine criminal divisions of General Sessions Court for Shelby County. Criminal court handles misdemeanors, preliminary hearings on felonies, traffic, environmental cases and expungements of criminal charges that have been dismissed in court. Even if your case has been dismissed in criminal court, this charge will still appear on your record if you don't have it expunged (erased) by this office. Court dates may not be changed by phone, you have to appear in person, unless the court gives a waiver. One judge is responsible for environmental court. This court handles environmental hazards such as illegal dump sites and substandard housing. Operates "The Drive While You Pay" License Recovery Program which may allow you to reinstate driving privileges. Arrests and Bonds are managed through the 24-hour clerk's Office.

Intake Process:

Call or visit website for information. May look up traffic ticket court date on the website by traffic ticket number or officer issuing ticket. Case information is also online. To have your Voting Rights Reinstated, call customer service (901-222-3376) or go online at tn.gov/sos/election

Program Fees:

Fees Vary by offense; this division accepts payments by cash, checks, credit card or money orders and there is also a way to pay through Western Union. Call or check website for more details. Be sure to include the docket number or ticket number on all payments.

      Special Notes/Funding

      Provides assistance in expungement of specific class E felonies and misdemeanor charges for persons who qualify. Upon petition by that person to the court having jurisdiction in the previous charge, the charge may be removed and destroyed with cost to the person petitioning to the clerk of the court. If offense was found guilty, it will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office.

      Eligibility

      Court Clerk's office can advise on which offenses committed are eligible to be expunged; person must have no other convictions anywhere other than the charge to be expunged and this is a one time only service. All fines, court costs and other assessments must be paid and person must provide evidence of the payment.

      Varies; Possibly $450.00 if guilty plea is entered
