Description:

Provides civil rights unit in the Memphis US Attorney's office which investigates both civil and criminal cases dealing with issues of racial, gender and religious discrimination in all areas of civil rights violations. Civil cases typically involve matters like mortgage and housing discrimination. Criminal cases typically include hate crimes, public official's misconduct, human trafficking and destruction of religious property, among other issues. This unit serves all the counties of West TN and works with the FBI (the FBI only investigates criminal cases, while this office investigates both civil and criminal cases of discrimination and other civil rights violations). Also investigates voter rights and suspected voter abuse and fraud. The Civil Rights Unit is located in the US Attorney, Western District of TN's office in Memphis.
