FAMILY ASSISTANCE
Families First:
Tennessee's new welfare reform program, which is a temporary cash assistance program emphasizing work, training and personal responsibility. Job readiness activities, job training, education, job development, placement assistance, child care and a variety of other support services are available to assist participants.

Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT):
A debit card available to low-income individuals or families, that may be used to purchase food or seeds to grow food.

Medicaid/TennCare:
Tennessee's medical assistance program which provides health care for low-income individuals and families.


COMMUNITY AND FIELD SERVICES

Child Care Licensing: (Through Johnson City District Office - DHS - 434-6900)
Assistance to persons wanting to establish a child care center, receive licensing, or file a child care complaint.

Adult Protective Services: (APS Referral 1-888-277-8366)
Services to adults who are abused, neglected, or financially exploited and unable to protect themselves due to mental or physical disabilities or advanced age.


REHABILITATION SERVICES

Vocational Rehabilitation:
Provides assistance to disabled Tennesseans to help them enter or return to the job market. Services include eligibility determination, training, medical services, employment counseling and job search.

Services for the Blind: (Through Johnson City District Office - DHS - 434-6934)
Provides rehabilitation services to the blind or visually impaired to promote independent living and adjustment to blindness; also provides some emergency medical treatment to prevent blindness to those who cannot afford such treatment.

Tennessee Council for the Hearing Impaired (TCHI):
Coordinates communication, information, personal counseling and advocacy services for deaf Tennesseans through regional Community Service Centers for the deaf. Contact Lyn Willis at the DHS Office in Johnson City - 434-6617.
