Water Storage/Distribution Infrastructure Services

Programs that are responsible for developing, maintaining and operating the system of storage and distribution facilities that are used to store and then convey treated water from the community’s water purification facility to consumers. Physical elements of the water distribution system include pipes (transmission mains, distribution piping, meters and service line connections); fire hydrants; curb boxes; elevated, in-ground or at grade storage facilities; controls including control systems to operate pumps and other components of the system, valves and backflow prevention devices; manholes and other means for accessing the system; and monitoring equipment for pressure, flow and water quality (chlorine residual, pH, temperature, and corrosion control e.g. alkalinity or phosphate). Activities that are part of operation and maintenance include cross connection control and backflow prevention, curb box maintenance, water pipe flushing, water main repair/replacement, storage facility maintenance and pump maintenance.
