Description
Founded in 1866, shortly after the end of the Civil War, Fisk University is a historically black university and is the oldest institution of higher learning in Nashville, Tennessee. Fiskâs faculty and students continue to enhance the Universityâs national reputation for academic excellence, which is validated year after year by the leading third-party reviewers, as well as, by the pool of talented applicants and the large percentage of alumni who complete graduate or professional degrees and become leaders and scholars in their fields.

Description
Fisk University offers a wide variety of summer programs for people ages 5 to 18 to become comfortable with university life; gain academic experience in math, science, and other disciplines; and increase the likelihood that they will become successful college students. GUSTO is a community partnership that is co-sponsored with the Spruce Street Baptist Church CDC. The program aims to help those students (boys & girls) entering grades five through high school who are historically under-represented and underserved position themselves to take advantage of STEM activities and opportunitiesâbut is open to all. STEM stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics and represents the most promising areas for future career success. THRUST: To Harness, Retain, Understand, Sustain and Teach - These projects use community organizations to strongly encourage the engagement and participation of parents. PCSI - Pre-College Science Institute -For families who want a summer filled with enrichment activities that will help their children better prepare for courses in mathematics, science, and reading/language arts along with fun-filled academic and physical activities for six weeks during the summer. Talented Tenth Leadership Development - a program to create hope and opportunities for young men of color, develop and leadership skills and roles across multiple industries and sectors. Pre-College Summer Program - The Pre-College Program is designed to bridge the gap of skills and knowledge between high school and college. The Pre-College Summer Program provides an academically stimulating and culturally motivating experience.
