Description:
Coordinates city/county emergency services and management functions of the operation center units and amateur radio groups in disaster-relief efforts. Operates and maintains warning sirens throughout the county in cases of area-wide emergencies. (The outdoor warning sirens in Memphis, Millington, and Shelby County are tested or activated every Wednesday at 3:30 pm if there is no inclement weather in the area. Germantown, Collierville and Bartlett!s sirens are tested at Noon on Saturdays if there is no inclement weather). A reminder from the Office of preparedness, although they also called "tornado sirens," these warning devices may also be activated to warn a large population about an impending disaster).
Offers information, literature, and films concerning disasters; instructional courses in management of disaster preparation, first aid, and addresses issues of disaster readiness; and provides information concerning chemicals produced and stored at separate industrial sites as required by Super Fund Amendment Act.
