Online technology tools such as Blogger or LiveJournal that allow people to post regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events or other material such as graphics or video for public consumption. Journal entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Many blogs (a contraction of "web log") provide commentary or news on a particular subject while others function as more personal online diaries; and most combine text, images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Included are micro-blogging applications such as Twitter, a form of blogging that allows users to send brief text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. The messages can be submitted by a variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, email, digital audio or the Web.
